With 25 years of international management consulting and business leadership experience, and a passion for creativity, transformation and human development, Laurie is dedicated to helping people learn mindfulness to live with meaning and lead with purpose-driven performance. As a former Accenture management consultant and business executive with three companies, her clients tell her she “gets their challenges” – in how she translates mindfulness into practical language and applications for everyday life.
Laurie founded PURPOSEBLUE on her realization that mindfulness is the foundational competency for achieving human potential, happiness and optimal well-being. Mindful, resilient leaders deepen their self-awareness and self-mastery, which allows them to be in a place of choice during difficult moments. Mindful Leaders are able to stay connected to purpose and thrive during uncertainty, change, and the distractions of our tech world.
Laurie has practiced mindfulness since 1995, following the teachings of mindfulness leader and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, Tara Brach and Pema Chodron. In 2013, she received the Five Mindfulness Trainings at the Magnolia Grove Monastery from Thich Nhat Hanh. In her capacity as founder of PurposeBlue, Laurie leads retreats, speaks around the globe, coaches and teaches leaders internationally how to bring more wisdom, clarity and meaning to their lives and work.
As a Certified SIY Teacher and was part of the first global cohort of teachers for the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI), based on the leadership program developed at Google. Bringing together thought leaders in emotional intelligence, neuroscience and mindfulness, SIYLI is dedicated to developing wise and compassionate leaders. Laurie teaches the SIY program around the world to companies like Google, Gemalto, TE Connectivity, Sunovian and in SIY Programs in New York, London, Paris, Beijing, Hyderabad, Washington, DC and Copenhagen.
Laurie is a Senior Fellow with the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being at George Mason University, working with leading researchers in the emerging field of workplace well-being. Laurie is also a Guest Professor at the top-ranked Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, teaching Mindful Leadership to EMBA leaders in the Leadership Mastery series. Laurie also trained as a Presence-Based Leadership Coach and is a certified coach with the International Coach Federation. She is an active member of the Otto Scharmer’s Presencing Institute and with her east coast chapter of the Neuroleadership Institute.
Maya Bachar, with degrees in Marketing and Industrial and Organizational Psychology, is dedicated to Well-Being in the Workplace. She is committed to the science of the application of everyday mindfulness to navigate adversity and create positive change in the world. At PurposeBlue, Maya is the Program Communications Lead, keeping our community aligned and connected for our clients, partners and vendors. In this role, Maya keeps it all in balance to create a caring ecosystem for our team and our stakeholders by managing our projects and programs. Maya’s early work in the field of marketing and business development, as well as her experience with crisis management, gives her deep empathetic listening skills and an ability to translate thoughts and ideas into powerful pieces of design. Maya is passionate about transformative personal growth and development. You can find her practicing yoga, spending time in nature, and walking by the ocean.
Krista, a graduate of the University of Virginia, focuses on human connection, development, mindfulness, and fulfillment. Starting with her early work at UVA’s Contemplative Sciences Center, she continues to explore ancient contemplative practices, meaning and well-being. Krista is a founding member of the University’s chapter of the non-profit organization Unsung People which publishes positive community journalism and hosts events in order to catalyze acts of kindness. One of Krista’s favorite ways to practice mindfulness is spending time in nature, slowing down to fully focus on and appreciate the beauty of the natural world. Krista is the program coordinator and “hub” of the wheel at PurposeBlue, serving clients, partners, vendors and our teams to keep it all in balance.
Virginia Hilliard, also known as Daisy, is dedicated to exploring organizational cultures and behavior to enhance human performance and experience in the workplace. Prior to joining PurposeBlue, Daisy explored the study of human potential in Oregon, learning human behavior patterns and communication techniques through Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Humanistic Neuro-Linguistic Psychology (NLP/HNLP) training.
Daisy graduated from Washington College with a degree in Psychology and Business Management. She finished with an independent, experimental research study focused on using self-focused attention and mindfulness to optimize performance and productivity for organizations and their employees. Her experience includes internships at Baltimore’s Advertising Firm, MGH, Inc. and New York City’s top Public Relations Agency, Sharp Communications, Inc. She also received her certification as a Corporate Wellness Specialist soon after graduating college.
Daisy continually grows her mindfulness practice and knowledge of everyday, brain-based techniques to enhance emotional intelligence and human potential. If she is not reading up on the subject, you will find her running, skiing or somewhere outside.
Elizabeth Ouren joined PurposeBlue as the Client Program Management Lead. Elizabeth worked at Accenture for 12 years on client projects located in Houston, Dallas, Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Bakersfield, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Early in her career she worked with Fortune 50 clients as a computer systems and process engineer, and later as a senior program manager ran several large multi-site systems implementations. Dedicated to community and social service, Elizabeth has passionately held leadership roles for many projects and boards in her local public school district and in the community. Elizabeth recently worked at an international start-up in Menlo Park managing operations, people, and recruiting. Elizabeth is passionate about improving the day-to-day lives of people and is thrilled to work with PurposeBlue’s clients.
Lori Schwanbeck is focused on the conditions that enable people to thrive in their personal and professional life. Her unique blend of qualifications as a marketing professional, psychotherapist, and mindfulness teacher, enable her to deliver a depth of knowledge along with practical skills that support change. Lori is passionate about creating lives of meaning, engagement and optimal performance with her clients.
As a Certified Search Inside Yourself teacher (SIY), Lori has taught leadership and mindfulness-based emotional intelligence in: Australia, Western and Eastern Europe, Canada, Senegal, Brazil, United States, and Asia. Her clients include: United Nations, Capitol One, Enbridge, Tennis Australia, Apple, Rotman School of Business, Microsoft, Nan Fung, and Google. Lori also has a lead role in program development and teacher training at SIY.
In addition to international corporate training, Lori co-founded Mindfulness Therapy Associates, a psychotherapy and coaching practice in San Francisco. She specializes in working with individual executives and business partners in skillfully managing difficult business relationships and navigating change. She has developed Sense and Sensibility, a skills training program utilizing mindful engagement of the senses to gain emotional balance.
Lori began her journey in Canada where she earned a degree in Commerce and worked in marketing for CP Rail, Kraft General Foods, and obtained a Masters degree in Transpersonal Psychology. Her teaching cultivates self-awareness in the physical, mental and emotional domains to increase wisdom and to create an engaged and inspired life.
Paul is skilled at helping clients navigate the stress-inducing demands of the modern workplace and enabling them to operate with focus, clarity and insight. Blending recent neuroscience findings in emotions and leadership, Paul provides his clients with a 21st Century roadmap of tools to operate with confidence, joy, and enhanced focus. He brings a wealth of experience in leadership and organization development, mindfulness, and practically to his engagement with global clients. He is a long-term contributor to executive education programs at top business schools in Boston and France.
Paul began his professional life as a photojournalist with the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon the completion of his military service, he became the General Manager at Northeastern University’s executive education conference center. He is on the delivery team of several long-standing leadership training programs helping his participants integrate life and work successfully. With a long-standing meditation practice, Paul believes that effective leaders are highly self-aware individuals who can inspire others to achieve their potential and generate desired business results.
Simon Moyes, a certified mindfulness teacher with Google’s Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute and a senior teacher with PurposeBlue, is dedicated to offering programs for executives and companies that lead to sustained high performance and wellbeing through accessible, evidence based, emotional intelligence and mindfulness practices. Simon was born in Britain and studied and worked as an architect in London and New York, then focused on the exploration of the mind through meditation, before bringing his experience back to the business world. He has undertaken more than seventeen years of intensive mindfulness training in India, Europe and North America, including four years as a Zen monk. Simon is known for inspiring executives and employees through teachings that lead to ongoing high performance, high quality relational skills, and increased wellbeing. Simon is also a teacher trainer for Search Inside Yourself’s ongoing teacher training program.
Dana Pulley is an accomplished leader, coach, facilitator and consultant who has learned first hand how mindful awareness enables you to lead and live in a more fulfilling way. For more than 20 years, she’s brought her contagious passion for growth and development to individuals and organizations in the professional service industry. She is a frequent speaker and workshop facilitator on mindfulness, embodied learning, and the intersection with neuroscience. She is a certified corporate-based mindfulness instructor with the Potential Project and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. Dana is also an ICF-certified coach, a graduate of Georgetown’s Institute for Transformational Leadership.
Dana held senior leadership positions with Booz Allen Hamilton, a Fortune 500 consulting firm. She managed a division that provided strategy, organization development, leadership development, talent management, learning and change management services to Federal government clients.
Oli Mittermaier specializes in helping teams develop their leadership skills and converge around common values. Oli teaches and facilitates leadership and mindfulness-based emotional intelligence internationally to companies such as Google, Microsoft, Capital One, T-Mobile, Ultimate Software, Merck, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, UCSF Medical School. He guides teams and individuals through high-stress situations, rapid-growth, team transitions, as well as developing innovative leadership development programs. Oli helps companies with Leadership Program Development, Program Delivery and team and individual coaching. Oli founded and ran startup ventures in healthcare and parenting sectors. He began meditating while going through volunteer training at Hospice by the Bay. He is a certified teacher with the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI), studied Non Violent Communication (NVC) with Marshall Rosenberg, and led wilderness expeditions as a field instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
Kelly Werner is an emotional intelligence expert dedicated to helping others shift from the overwhelm of busyness to optimal effectiveness in dynamic business environments. Kelly’s background as a neuroscience and emotional intelligence researcher at U.C. Berkeley and Stanford where she earned a Ph.D gives her a rich and nuanced understanding of harnessing the power of emotions through mindfulness and the brain science underlying these practices. Kelly is also a lead teacher with the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute born at Google.
In addition to leading group workshops and retreats, Kelly works individually with clients as an executive coach and psychologist helping people connect to their inner wisdom and to effectively manage their attention, recover from set-backs, communicate a vision, and navigate relationships. She also developed the authentic conversation game Tell Me… as a way of building connection and trust with teams.
Founder of the Mindfulness Institute, Mark Coleman has been facilitating mindfulness programs and retreats since 1997 around the world. Mark is a leading expert in mindfulness teaching and coaching and has worked with companies and organizations that include Google, Facebook, Proctor & Gamble, US Bank, Salesforce, Seagate, Ford, Gap, Gucci, the United Nations, and the Nature Conservancy. Mark, a senior teacher at Spirit Rock in Northern California, a world renowned mindfulness center, also developed the ‘Awake in the Wild’ program and leads mindfulness based nature immersions internationally.
Mark is a lead teacher at the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, developed at Google, delivering mindfulness and emotional intelligence programs to Fortune 500 companies. Mark is also well-known in online mindfulness arena. He co-developed programs for British Airways, The New York Times and for Whil, a specialist in online mindfulness training. Mark is a published author with two books on mindfulness. His second book has just been released: Make Peace With Your Mind: How Mindfulness and Compassion Can Help Free You from Your Inner Critic. He lives in Northern California.
Lauren is deeply passionate about expanding consciousness and cultivating harmony internally and externally. At PurposeBlue, Lauren is a researcher, designer, and content producer for our multi-modal online learning programs. She is thrilled to support sharing the science and practical applications of mindfulness, well-being, and emotional intelligence.
Lauren worked in strategy consulting for IBM in NYC, Chicago, and Australia. She went on to human rights and regenerative environmental freelance projects. She mentored two consulting teams to expand Seabin, a non-profit focalized on ending plastic pollution, into North and South America. She worked with the Australian and UK parliament to enact anti-slavery supply chain due diligence legislation and designed learning content for various regenerative farms in Tasmania and Queensland.
Lauren graduated from the University of South Carolina International Business program, completing a second major in Global Supply Chain and Operations Management. She completed her university studies abroad, focusing on finance and entrepreneurship in Spain and Chile.
She loves spending time in nature, practicing yoga, traveling, and working on creative projects to inspire a deeper connection to self, community, and nature.
